There has been a surge in the demand for work related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) after the Coronavirus / COVID-19 crisis and Lockdown. In April, 12,841,359 people sought work under it, while in May it jumped by 181 percent and the number of people seeking work under MGNREGS rose to 36,155,787.
The increase comes as innumerable people lost their jobs during a tight lockdown in view of the outbreak of Corona infection. As a result, migrant laborers, workers and laborers returned from the metropolises to the home states after the labor trains started, so they turned to MGNREGS related work for Gujar Basar.
This is the reason that now the youth also want to work under MGNREGS and they are doing so. According to the data, under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, 9.82 percent people are between 18 and 30 years old. 31.14 percent of people are 31 to 40 years old. 30.03 percent people are in the age group of 41 to 50 years. 19.27 percent people are between 51-60 years old. 9.39 percent of people are between 61 and 80, while 0.35 people are above the age of 81 years.
