Tokyo. Chilean taekwondo player Fernanda Aguirre was ruled out of the Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19 upon arrival at the airport here on Wednesday . Chile's Olympic body gave this information. Chile's National Olympic Committee (NOC) said in a statement, "Fernanda Aguirre was found to be Kovid-19 positive in tests conducted upon arrival in Japan." He was found positive in both antigen and PCR test after which he has been kept in a predetermined isolation facility. Chile's NOC said, "The player is showing no symptoms and is in good health, but unfortunately she will not be able to take part in the competition because Japan's health authorities have imposed a minimum of 10 days of isolation."
Taekwondo competition will start from Saturday. Fernanda's coach Jose Zapata has been kept in isolation due to his close contact despite a negative result. Fernanda was also included in the eight Kovid-19 infected cases related to the Games disclosed by the organizing committee on Wednesday. Before Fernanda, five players have been found to be Kovid-19 positive, out of which three were living in the village. However, none of them were found positive on arrival at the airport. With eight new cases on Wednesday, the number of sports-related Kovid cases has reached 75. The Olympics will begin on Friday and go on till August 8 in the absence of spectators at the stadium.
