Panchayat elections: Voting begins for Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samitis in nine districts of Haryana
In the first phase of Panchayat elections in Haryana, voting began on Sunday morning to elect members of Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis in nine districts. In 61 blocks of nine districts - Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Mahendergarh, Nuh, Panchkula, Panipat, and Yamunanagar, polling is underway to elect 1,278 members of Panchayat Samiti and 175 members of Zilla Parishad, officials said. 49,67,092 voters will exercise their franchise in nine districts for the first phase of elections. For the first phase, 6,019 polling stations have been set up.
Voting began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. In the first phase, voting for the election of sarpanches and punches will be held on November 2. Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh had earlier said that 133 sarpanches and 17,158 punches have been elected unopposed in nine districts of the state given the November 2 elections. Singh had told that 56 candidates have been unanimously selected for the Panchayat Samitis. In the first phase, 34,371 candidates are in the fray for the election of Panch, Sarpanch and members of Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad.
These include 19,175 males and 15,196 females. The results of the election of sarpanch and panch will be announced at the end of each phase of polling, while the results of the election of Zilla Parishad and panchayat Samiti members will be announced on November 27. In the second phase, voting for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members will be held on November 9 and for Sarpanch and Panch on November 12.
In the second phase, polling will be held in Ambala, Charkhi Dadri, Gurugram, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa, and Sonipat districts. The third and last phase of elections will be held in Hisar, Palwal, Faridabad, and Fatehabad. In these districts, voting for the election of members of the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti will be held on November 22, while the election for the election of sarpanches and punches will be held on November 25.
