First wave of floods hits Assam amid coronavirus pandemic

Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, the primary wave of floods hit Assam which left many villages submerged.

Following Cyclone Amphan in Bengal and Odisha and torrential rainfall in northeast for over 48 hours, many rivers within the state are overflowing.

On Friday morning, some of the PWD road near Kampur area in Assam’s Nagaon district was washed away by flood waters of the Borpani river.

Many villages and a number of other hectares of crop land within the area were submerged under water.

Many villages were submerged in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts thanks to flooding of the Ronganadi river.

Over 90 people had died and quite 5 million people affected in floods in Assam last year.
