Coronavirus lockdown: Telangana govt announces up to 75% salary cut for its officials

In the wake of a financial crisis thanks to the coronavirus pandemic which has affected over 1,000 people in India, the government decided to chop salaries of the govt employees and officials. the choice was taken at a high-level review meeting persisted Monday at Pragathi Bhavan.

After reviewing the economic condition of the state, decisions were taken on payment of varied government employees' salaries.

As per the govt announcement, there'll be 75 per cent cut within the salaries of the chief minister, state cabinet, MLCs, MLAs, state corporation chairpersons, and representatives of local bodies.

There will be a 60 per cent pay cut for IAS, IPS, IFS and other such central services officers -- for all other categories of employees, there'll be a 50 per cent pay cut . for sophistication IV, outsourcing and contract employees, there'll be a ten per cent salary cut .

For all the categories of pensioners, there'll be a 50 per cent salary cut . the category IV retired employees will have a ten per cent cut in their salaries. For all the general public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), institutions that are receiving the govt grants employees, just like the government employees and retirees, there'll be cut in their salaries, too.

Meanwhile, opposition BJP has condemned the Telangana government's "hasty decision to chop salaries" of the government employees. BJP said that this is often an extreme measure and is unwarranted at this stage of the crisis.

"Telangana is that the only state in India which has resorted to such an unprecedented step to chop salaries of government employees," BJP leader Krishna Sagar Rao said.
